This dip is cool, creamy, and packed with enough garlic to make sure you remain unkissable for at least 24 hours. But let’s be honest, anyone worth kissing will also have indulged in a huge dollop of this delightful dip. It's fresh, tangy, and packed with herbs, making it the perfect accompaniment to our Spiced Koobideh Kebabs, Greek Chicken Kebabs or roasted meats.

A bowl with yogurt, chopped herbs, and spices on a marbled counter. A spoon is inside the bowl. The setting is rustic and earthy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (or any thick plain yogurt)

  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced (or ½ teaspoon garlic powder for a milder taste)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin

  • ½ teaspoon sumac or smoked paprika

  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs, chopped (mint, parsley, or cilantro)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, cumin, and sumac or paprika.

  2. Stir in the fresh herbs.

  3. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Add more lemon juice for brightness or more yogurt for a creamier consistency.

  4. Let the dip sit in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  5. Serve chilled alongside kebabs, vegetables, or grilled meats.

Variations and Tips

  • To thin the dip for drizzling, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water or milk.

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a teaspoon of harissa.

  • Before serving, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with extra sumac for added flavor.

This garlic-herb yogurt dip recipe adds a cool, creamy contrast to bold, spiced dishes and works well as a spread or dipping sauce.
